[Journal article] Cases that Burn Us Out: Burnout and Emotions Experienced in Challenging Situations – A Qualitative Study of Experienced Palliative Care Clinicians

29 Mar 2022

Authors: Mervyn Yong Hwang Koh, Marysol Dalisay Gallardo, Hwee Sing Khoo, Allyn Hum

Summary points:

1. We describe some of the challenging clinical situations which may potentially lead to burnout in palliative care clinicians.

2. We also describe the emotions they experienced when they undergo these situations.

3. We strongly recommend the palliative care fraternity to be aware of these challenging situations and the emotions evoked and to create platforms where these emotions can be shared and acknowledged in a ‘safe’ environment.
