Summary points:
1. Palliative care services are beneficial to a broad group of fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD) patients, including connective tissue disease related ILD, fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis and unclassifiable ILD.
2. Patients in the palliative-intervention group were referred more frequently to allied healthcare support, had higher advanced care planning (ACP) uptake and started on medications for symptom relief earlier in their disease trajectory. This was achieved without an increase in healthcare utilization.
3. Male gender was a significant predictor of 1-year mortality in this cohort of fibrotic ILD patients.
